George Santos drops House bid as federal trial looms : NPR

The property, built in the 1930s, belonged to the estate of Lee Phillip Bell, who died earlier this year and was best known for co-creating the soap operas The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless with her late husband, William. It was previously owned by other celebrities, including actor Charles Boyer and Howard Hughes, who leased the mansion to his onetime lover Katharine Hepburn. "I don't want to split the ticket and be responsible for handing the house to Dems," Santos wrote in a social media post.

Each home is staffed with nurturing caregivers who make every effort to create a beautiful, cozy home where children feel safe and loved. The film ends with Mark and two of his colleagues visiting Bol and Rial at their home. They have completely embraced their lives in London, which surprises Mark.

Accomplice in shooting death of 6-year-old Aidan Leos pleads guilty, sentenced to time served

He combines elements that are fresh and others that are familiar to create both a humanising story of immigration and an unsettling, old-fashioned tale of a haunting, neatly oscillating between the two. It’s a confident and compelling statement of intent from a young, ambitious film-maker and it’s no surprise that Netflix sneaked in before Sundance kicked off to buy the rights. One of the best debuts of the year, Remi Weekes’ shrewd, tender, and sometimes terrifying “His House” begins with a clever premise — the immigrant experience as a horror movie — and expands on that idea in knowing and unexpected ways. Setting his film in an unspecified part of England, Weekes makes life for the couple as scary out of the house as it is inside. Their brief encounters with the outside world are mostly harsh and unforgiving, from open to casual racism, making any sort of adjustment seem impossible. But Weekes also avoids leaning into caricature, especially with Matt Smith’s empathetic housing officer who could have so easily been painted as a villain.

Bol and Rial tell him they have chosen to stay and make it their new home. They say Rial killed the witch that haunted them, which Mark finds funny. Bol says they decided to live with the ghosts of their past from South Sudan, including Nyagak. Simpson asked the California Supreme Court to overturn the judgment, arguing that he had been denied the right to confront evidence and witnesses in the civil trial. The Goldman family can file a claim against Simpson’s estate in an effort to extract some funds, but it’s not clear how much they could ultimately receive, said Elizabeth Bawden, an adjunct professor at UCLA School of Law who specializes in estate planning.

She sees this when some Black British teens who scream for her to “go back to Africa” after she asks them for help. The boys prove that old adage that not all skinfolk is kinfolk. With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Gerald Eugene Blanding Jr. (Los Angeles, California), who passed away on April 13, 2024. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Gerald Eugene Blanding Jr. to pay them a last tribute. Bonjean touted the New York decision as “the right thing,” adding that it was important that everyone, no matter who they are, receive a fair trial.

Meet the Hawley family

The story arcs not toward clarity but toward complexity and gnawing discomfort; the more we learn about Bol and Rial, the more complicated and human they become, and the messier and more ghastly their past becomes. Horror is often cathartic, purifying — it puts you through the wringer but you emerge on the other side, somehow cleansed. His House is beautifully made, and its scares are monstrously effective, but its images of real-world dread remain unresolved, its specters unvanquished. Weekes and his cast get the little things right, which in turn allow the big things to work.

It's a film that shows the horror of being a refugee, with the guilt of the past and the fear of losing oneself when we are forced to assimilate into a new world and culture. Educational, profoundly scary and an experience that delights in taking unexpected routes, this film is one of those debut features that makes you want to keep track of everything a director does from here on out. I very much enjoyed this...it's not exactly a horror film the way it was advertised but it was well paced and executed. It's definitely a conversation starter with it's themes on pain and grief. His desire to fit in results in him using an advertisement on a clothing store wall as the basis of his new fashion look. We catch a security guard following Bol in that store, a callous reminder of Rial telling her husband that full acceptance will never be possible.

It also makes us consider our desire for retribution, then upends it with an act which shows that we are outsiders who will never fully comprehend neither the shared pain of the Majurs nor what they were willing to do for survival and for love. We are left with the sobering notion that trauma will always occupy a room in the houses our psyches build. To not acknowledge its presence only makes it bang harder on the walls.

“One of the good ones” is uttered multiple times in “His House,” giving the sense that this type of microaggression will be at the forefront of the film’s haunting. But Weekes relegates it to the background, keeping it in the corners of reality rather than informing the supernatural. Instead, these ghosts are symbolic stowaways on the migration. Their refusal to go back from whence they came is as adamant as Bol’s yearning to stay in England. Unlike him, they do offer a scenario for their acquiescence. A civil court jury in 1997 found Simpson liable for the deaths of his ex-wife and her friend and ordered the former football star to pay their families more than $33 million.

It’s one of many effective ways that Weekes leverages the supernatural to convey the horrors of a process that’s all too real, the most striking of which is saved for last and salvages the movie from ceding too much ground to its demons. For all of its clumsiness and rookie missteps (which continue through the film’s gut-punch of a coda), “His House” is an urgent and spine-tingling ghost story about what it means to begin anew in a home that may not want you to live in it. Rial is less perplexed by the angry specters who live in the walls of their house (whose house, exactly?), and confronted by more practical horrors as a result — albeit ones textured with the eeriest of wrinkles. As creatively staged as these sequences can be (enjoy solid practical effects, the best light switch business since “Lights Out,” and a climactic encounter that will make Guillermo del Toro giddy as hell), “His House” is most effective when it wanders outside.

"Staying in this race all but guarantees a victory for the Dems." The apeth gives Rial visions of her old life in its effort to turn her against her husband. Her long-dead students and fellow teachers are brought back from the imprints that they had left on their memory.

Harvey Weinstein and his legal team are “very optimistic” that the overturning of his New York sex crime conviction will strengthen his appeal over his Los Angeles rape conviction, his lawyer told The Post. Many from the sporting world took to social media to express their feelings toward former football star and accused murderer O.J. On Friday, Simpson’s will was filed in Clark County court in Nevada.

But those frights can sometimes feel like a distraction, a display of showmanship that doesn’t feel deeply rooted in the characters’ psychological torment. So are the occasional reminders of that ocean crossing, replete with hallucinatory imagery of rotting zombies and rolling waves — a grim, effective reminder of the migrant crisis’ human toll that pays off poignantly at the story’s close. You suspect, of course, that the demonic entity on the premises — whom Rial refers to alternately as “a beast” and “a witch” — would follow them wherever they went. Just when we think we know where the story is going, and that we understand its characters and the source of their trauma, “His House” takes an unexpected turn that casts one of its protagonists in a different light. It’s the one time where reality becomes even more disturbing than any supernatural element, muddying the waters on how we feel about everything that has come before.

While a little too on the nose with its metaphors along with a dreadful procurement that would have used a little more scope, the film serves as a strangely accurate portrayal of going through the refugee experience. Even when the girl’s actual mother returns and starts screaming for her, he doesn’t let her go. It is this the punishment for this crime that has come after them to London. The apeth reveals to Rial that she can have Nyagak back as long as she cuts open Bol’s flesh, which would allow it to physically hurt him. Bonjean slammed the trial as “blasphemously unfair,” claiming the prosecution also relied on “bad act evidence,” similar to the New York trial which saw three women testify before the jury with allegations that weren’t connected to the case being tried. LA Judge Lisa Lench later denied Weinstein’s request for a new trial as the former Hollywood producer maintained his innocence. The Los Angeles conviction saw Weinstein sentenced to 16 years in prison in February 2023 for raping an Italian model, who was identified as Jane Doe, at a film festival in 2013. Early on, we see the warmth and ease between Bol and Rial, which gives their eventual alienation from one another a tragic quality. The delicacy with which Bol touches the walls of their new house — despite the fact that the place is a decaying trash heap — conveys the care he hopes to give to it, as well as his fear of upsetting the gentle balance of this new life. Also, their strange new milieu is often scary enough without any assistance from ancient witches. Lost in a desolate, mazelike corner of the neighborhood one day, Rial asks for directions from a group of teens, only to be mocked and told to “go back to Africa.” That the kids themselves are Black just adds to her sense of disorientation and fear. The Majurs are refugees from South Sudan who escaped in the tragic boat accident shown in Bol’s nightmare.

Creating Aesthetic Scrapbook Layouts

scrapbook design

Scrapbooks not only make sure you have physical copies of important photos, but they also provide a place for non-digital items—like children's drawings, ticket stubs, and dried wedding flowers. Scrapbooks also make great coffee table conversation starters and keepsake gifts for loved ones. And, you don't need to be an artist, or even particularly good at crafting, to nail it. The beautiful thing about scrapbooks is that each one is unique. With a little guidance—like theme ideas, layout templates, and supply lists—even beginners can make attractive and affordable scrapbooks they'll cherish for years to come.

This technique allows you to use a variety of bold patterns while making it not appear too busy. I also cut multiple squares and rectangles to back the photos to give it some extra dimension. The legal basis for this processing is our legitimate interests, namely [the proper protection of our business against risks].

Layle lends over 20 years of scrapbooking experience to this simple guided demonstration of the perfect Disney-themed photo and memory album. Creating a beautiful, personalized scrapbook has never been easier. In collaboration with Mixbook, Martha created her own collection of scrapbooks for you and your family to fill with your most precious memories. Then, lay out half the pages—in this case six, right side down.

scrapbook design

Personalize your page with your favorite photos to remember forever and round up all your photographs to include in your layouts. You could even sort your photos into piles for the different pages you'd like to create! Think about how many photos you want on each page - do you want a single centre photo to build out the page around it or how about collaging a whole heap of photos? Play around with composition before securing your photos in place. For a more manageable project, use your typical scrapbook supplies—paper, stickers, and even paint—to decorate a wooden box. Then, simply slip keepsakes inside it throughout the year.

Personalized Advertising

It is a fun layout because it looks complicated and involved, but was actually super easy to create with only a few scrapbook supplies. (a)   [personal data category or categories] will be retained for a minimum period of [period] following [date], and for a maximum period of[period] following [date]. 1.4   Our website incorporates privacy controls which affect how we will process your personal data.

Plus, they are extremely easy to use and look fantastic. Templates are a great way to find new scrapbook ideas for beginners. I cut two 6×6 inch patterned papers in half to create a triangular shape.

This way, if you mess up for damage a picture you have extras. Not only will this embellish the page, but it will also save you space if you are using multiple photos. Here, I kept things simple and cut mine into squares and circles. But you may try various shapes such as hearts, stars, flowers, clouds, etc. 8.13 You may exercise any of your rights in relation to your personal data [by written notice to us] OR [by [methods]][, in addition to the other methods specified in this Section 8].

You are invited into the personal craft spaces of these incredible designers as they share their favorite card making tips and techniques. If you're working with very fragile photos, historical documents, recipe cards, or anything that can easily tear or be tarnished, you'll want to avoid destructive tape and glue. These ribbon mounts allow you to secure items to the scrapbook page without damaging them.

Building your own scrapbook allows you to not only document your favorite memories but also be creative. However, I can totally relate to feeling overwhelmed when looking at hundreds of photos. As someone who has made countless photo albums before, I am sharing with you the best way to start one yourself. These beginner friendly projects are simple and require minimal supplies.

You can include leaves, sand, clouds, stickers, or stones in your scrapbook ideas! Glue or thread your buttons into your paper and photos to add color and create a stunning design on your scrapbook page. Use different colors and kinds of craft buttons to showcase your photos. At the end of the season, fill that blank page with photos of the family completing the activity.

Popsicles are fun pages perfect for summer or you can immortalize your favorite recipe. Whip up as many popsicles as you can and display them on your scrapbook page. Staying in a monochromatic color scheme makes you focus on using embellishments in a more elegant and creative way. Simply cut one of your photos to create strips and group them together.

The scrapbooking process involves much more than just placing photos on a page. When you scrapbook, you can experiment with different designs, colors, and stickers to bring each page to life. It's about crafting a narrative in a way that’s uniquely yours. In this ten-part series, you will get an insider look into the creative process of 10 celebrated card makers who are joining us to create handmade cards for Cards for Kindness™.

FEATURED PROJECTS

To complete the look of a new custom home in California, you will want to employ the services of a top-notch interior designer. Without cohesive furnishings, lighting, art, wall and floor coverings, all the hard work put in by your architects and builders will simply not get the justice it deserves. Maybe you want sophisticated elegance in your Silicon Valley estate or a laid-back California look for a beachside home in San Diego, or perhaps a regal European feel in your San Francisco high-rise apartment.

During an art residency last year in a former castle in the Umbrian countryside, the textile artist Liz Collins sat in her temporary studio stitching a needlepoint. She was surrounded by long bulletin boards, on which she had tacked dozens of her gem-colored watercolor works and ink drawings, along with images of shapes that inspire her. On her worktable lay swatches of the silk and Lurex she would soon use to render her paintings and drawings into textiles. If you are thinking about building a custom home, we recommend checking each builder’s license with the local licensing board, speaking to past clients, and using our bidding system to get competitive quotes from at least 3 contractors.

In addition to private residences, and the expected restaurants and hotels, Fernandez has worked on everything from riding stables and executive offices, to yachts and private planes. Our team is skilled at Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and our designers and engineers work concurrently to create products that are beautiful, functional, reliable, and manufacturable. Advanced FEA and CFD tools enable our engineers to create virtual simulations to test designs, optimize performance, and determine material selections. While manufacturing is usually on our mind throughout the design process, once we’re creating 3D models it’s really time to start considering the way our design will actually come to life. It’s at this point that serious discussions about the best materials and manufacturing methods will need to happen. As much as the design may look great as a 3D model, the materials it’s made of in the real world will go a long way in determining whether it will actually function properly. We are a client-focused, results-driven architectural service firm which provides broad-based design services.

With each project we aim to innovate to achieve outcomes that are distinct in nature and high quality, through collaborative processes and best practice standards. The iMazing 3 software on Mac works with the Vision Pro in addition to the ‌iPhone‌ and the ‌iPad‌, and there is support for remote pairing. Other new features include a Dark Mode, improved Backup and snapshot management, and a redesigned settings interface. Students from the University of Houston, Rice University, and Texas A&M University attended the symposium to learn from these beyond the classroom discussions and network with industry professionals.

Following “Beyond Zero,” executives from across Houston’s diverse industries participated in several “PowerTalk” panels to understand each company’s perspective and work toward sustainability. The College’s namesake, Gerald D. Hines, was a global, innovative force in sustainable design, and many of these companies worked directly with Hines. For Interface, the journey beyond net zero was not just about the financial bottom line but about saving the earth. The company wanted to “create a climate fit for life.” As they worked together to develop more sustainable practices, Interface persuaded its suppliers to prioritize innovation and, therefore, build a more sustainable supply base for the company. Interface was able to build a company that is both sustainable and profitable.

The studio works on everything — from grand family estates, cozy mountain lodges, and upscale beach houses, to country villas and luxury penthouses. They pay attention to every tiny detail of a project, designing custom furnishings and upholstery, procuring specialized lighting, and curating exceptional art and antique collections — all of which reflect their client’s individual style and needs. Madeline Stuart has attracted the attention of a wide range of clientele, stretching from the entertainment industry to the world of business and finance. Some noteworthy clients include Larry David, hotelier Jeff Klein and film producer John Goldwyn, talent agents Susan and David Gersh, former NBC Studios President Ted Harbert, actor Jason Alexander, and film producer Lisa Henson.

Creating detailed customer personas helps you move forward with focus to the next stage— sketching your product. Strictly Necessary Cookie should be enabled at all times so that we can save your preferences for cookie settings.

Now that you have some sketches and a bit of direction for your design, it’s time to refine that concept. With experience in large-scale feasibility studies and masterplans, we can lead large teams to imagine and realise any of our clients' visions. MacRumors attracts a broad audience of both consumers and professionals interested in the latest technologies and products.

By focusing our study on the user, we are able to identify the problem and provide a thorough analysis to give our clients an understanding of the extent of their programs, and help them make decisions and identify potential opportunities. The endless cycle is the reason we call ourselves Beyond Design—our work doesn’t end once the product is finished. It’s now time to tackle the last few steps that take your idea from a design to a working, functioning product. It’s a true three-dimensional model, which means that it can be digitally rotated to be viewed from any angle. It’s easy to see why this is an even more effective way of assessing a product design than a static sketch.

We started with an idea, which turned into a sketch, which turned into a 3D rendering. At Beyond Design, we’ll often create something called a photorealistic rendering, and it’s exactly what the name implies. With modern rendering technology, we can now create an imageof a design that’s so realistic that it looks like an actual photograph. This allows us to see the product in all of its detail, as if it exists in the real world. With our electric kettle example, we might render the product in a photorealistic kitchen space, to see how it fits on a countertop alongside other home appliances.

Although Volpe’s practice is based in San Francisco, he works for clients as far as New York, Paris, London, Antwerp, and beyond. He applies his “thoughtfully modern” design aesthetic to high-end homes, with a design sense informed by his immersion as a young designer in European techniques, history, and theory when he lived in Paris. Along with his staff of eight, the firm constantly tries to bring new elements and inspiration to their designs from travels, constant study, and the ever-changing context of their projects. In addition to his interior design work, Volpe runs Hedge with cofounder Roth Martin — an adventurous and compelling San Francisco design gallery highlighting innovative work. A long-standing leader among the Los Angeles design community, Madeline Stuart has earned international acclaim for her sophisticated home designs. Her firm has been distinguished by its inclusion on the AD100 since 2001 — the same year that Forbes named her as one of the best interior designers on the West Coast.

The Publick House Historic Inn in Sturbridge, Massachusetts is nestled on acres of beautiful countryside in the heart of New England. This is where delicious homemade food and comfortable lodging come together as your home away from home. Through the years, this historical destination has grown into a landmark in Sturbridge, offering two charming restaurants that boast a dining experience from an era that has long passed.

Historic Tap Room

The inn was even transformed into a boarding house for women called “The Elms” for a brief time, although it nearly closed down due to its dilapidated state. Fortunately, salvation arrived in the form of Richard Paige, who bought the entire complex for a single dollar amid a card game. Working alongside architect James A. Britten, Paige carefully restored the building back to its roots, which thus gave it a completely new lease on life. Thanks to his innovation and respect for history the Publick House Historic Inn has never closed its doors since.

Stay The Night

The kitchen, which is now the Tap Room, held a huge fireplace for cooking large batches of food in what is now a hearth. The Tap Room—currently the Pineapple Room—held large barrels of rum, from which the robust Crafts would lift and drink from directly. Ebenezer’s Tavern was named after our founder and keeper of the Inn, Colonel Ebenezer Crafts, who entertained Revolutionary troops hearthside with culinary feasts and specialty drinks. As a tribute to the colonel, the atmosphere has maintained its 18th century ambiance adorning oversized wingback chairs, comfortable couches by the fireplace, and the vintage brass beer taps and rum barrels. Sample our jumbo crab cakes and home-made potato chips, or our traditional meatloaf dinner and old-fashioned chicken pot pie; generous portions are served up from our tavern-style menu. These rooms are designed for those staying in the area on business or spending the weekend with friends and family celebrating a wedding or special event.

Each room offers two queen-size beds, refrigerator, in-room safe, and walk-in shower (some rooms also have standard bathtubs). Start your morning with a perfect cup of coffee, our famous pecan sweet rolls and a peace that is inspired by an era long passed. When the heavenly scent of home-baked goods greets you at the door, you will be tempted to order today. Visit the Bake Shoppe at the Publick House in Sturbridge, and start your morning with a perfect cup of coffee, our famous pecan sweet rolls, and a peace that is inspired by an era long passed. Our 18th-century bakery features irresistible pastries, decadent desserts, homemade breads, traditional pies, cakes, jams, relishes, and party foods. Feel free to call and place your order with us ahead of time.

As such, this fantastic historic hotel has continued to offer unmatched hospitality and affordable accommodations to guests well into the present. The inn nonetheless saw its business decline after a depression struck the young United States in the wake of the American Revolutionary War. Due to the financial constraints, Crafts was forced to sell his beloved inn and moved to Vermont, where he founded the town of Craftsbury. Now known only as the “Publick House,” the inn survived the depression to reemerged as a popular landmark in downtown Sturbridge.

Upon the suggestion of his college friend, Joshua Payne, Crafts applied to a parish in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Payne was chosen over him, though, and friendship subsequently splintered. Crafts went back to Pomfret, Connecticut, where he married and began a life in the military as an homage to his father.

Payne reached out and offered Crafts the chance to return to Sturbridge as a means of rekindling their friendship. While visiting, Crafts fell in love with a plot of land that flanked the town green. The building’s ground floor featured several public rooms and a large kitchen, while 13 guestrooms resided upstairs for overnight guests. Some of the rooms on the first floor provided specific services to Crafts’ guests, too. There was a general store in what is now the Pumpkin Room; a men’s smoking room (now the Card Room) for daily gatherings, news sharing, and gossip; and a Ladies Parlor connected right next door.
